What dangers does firework debris present to the public?
In some cases after a firework explodes, parts of the firework may fall which are still hot. In order to reduce this risk of falling debris, spectators should be kept upwind of the firing site and the minimum spectator distance should always be observed and where possible extended.
hi there just gone through your plan an event i,mve been asked to do a small display on 4th nov wedding .with red ,silver and gold.no bangers/firecrackers just a couple of questions, about 60-100 quests 25 mtr or so is it poss to pick just those colours and is there instructions on timing of ignition of fireworks or can i set them off electronically ,thanks for any help
Hi there, yes no problem with letting you have the timings, we have many items that suit what you have asked for 96s Garden Barrages, 200s Aurora Barrages are available in single colours, Royal salute is Red & Silver, we have a large 64s Cake which is |Red and Silver Crossette, many of our larger rockets are available in Red or Silver or a mixture of both. Other Silver Fountains are available and Red Roman Candles as well as whistle which is also silver. These effects are shown on our web cart but they wil;l be all 25 metre fireworks. Any other question then please ask
I am looking to buy some tipe of fireworks that say marry me... i am not a very wealthy man... and I live in the United States... all I can seem to find are over seas... any suggestions?
Hi there yes we can make a firework like this, typically £15 per letter plus VAT & Carriage. I think you would need to be wealthy though as it will cost a small forune to ship one to America.
In the UK is there any requirement to get a licence, inform police or restrictions within built up areas etc?
No there is no requirement for a licence, but we would advise infoming your neighbours and perhaps the police/fire brigade just so they are all aware and there are no false call outs and you dont upset your neighbours.
im getting married at rockingham castle corby i would like to have a fire work display but can i get someone to set them of as for most people would of had a drink by night time so not a good idea
Hi There, yes of course we offer a specialist display service accross the UK and we have worked at Rockingham many times ove the years. If you visit our website and go into the Wedding Section quotes and infomation is readily available or give Samantha our wedding coordinator a ring or drop us an email
I thought that the law had changed and that we needed a licence and a specialist to set off foreworks apart from aroun November 5th. Is that correct.
The law did change but this brought in restrictions on the use (not fater 11pm) and the sale of fireworks (non specialist shops 3 weeks prior to Nov 5th and 1 week prior to New Year approx) and not what time iof year members of the public could use them. As a specialist we are able to offer Fireworks for sale all year but we do ask that our out of season customers stick to a few rules when using fireworks, i. e informing neighbours, not using them too late etc..
We are shortly going to place an advert fpr a large quantity of category 3 shop good foreworks. Acn you advise me of your fax number and i will send a copy once it is ready
Hi there Fax orders can be sent to 0870 4430211
When will my fireworks get here?
Hi there, As a customer from outside the UK we cannot send the fireworks to you, we have refunded your credit card
I want to purchase wolfpack fire crackers or any fire crackers available? (PLZ REPLY)
Fire Crackers are now illegal for members of the public to buy and/or use them in the UK
do you guys make fireworks that pop the question like will u marry me?? and if so how much do they cost???
Yes indeed we do, we offer a recycled product (paper rope) which the customer has to apply parrafin (according to instructions provided) the cost is very cheap at just £10 per Letter + VAT, this can also be delivered if required at our standard charge of £11.50 + VAT. Please note there is a charge of £20 for the frame, which is refundable on return of the frame.
Can you let me know how you justify promoting the sale of fireworks all year round and consequently encouraging anti social behaviour. It used to be that firworks were for bonfire night and new year only. Thanks to companies like yours we have bangs most weekends in the summer which I personally and many others find disturbing. It is not just dogs that are affected !
Dear Roger, of course we dont condone the anti social use of fireworks, or any other anti social behaviour for that matter. This weekend we were fortunate enough to be involved with a Large Fireworks Display for the Asian community in London for Diwali, and all of our staff commented on what a pleasure it was working for such a responsible community who enjoyed the night without complaint or acting offensively. We provided a massive display to music and thousands and thousands of people enjoyed them. Over Bonfire night millions of people enjoy fireworks and use them properly and responsibly again without complaint or acting offensively. Of course we do have a problem in this country with a minority of morons who do act anti socially, but I also think we do have an intolorance of our neighbours and community, and find other peoples legitimate celebrations offensive when they are quite within their rights to celebrate their special occasion . I dont know where you live or what your reasons that have driven you to email us with the sole intention of venting your frustration, but I can assure you we are a very professional and responsible firework company and act accordingly. We do not (as you say) encourage anti social behaviour, we provide a wonderful source of entertainment that has been around for 2000 years and has stood the test of time.
I HAVE JUST BEEN TOLD THAT I HAVE TO HAVE A LICENED PERSON TO LET FIREWORKS OFF AT MY DAUGHTERS WEDDING, IS THIS TRUE? WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO LEGALLY?
Hi there, you do not legally have to have a professional to let of fireworks at your wedding assuming they have purchased legal fireworks from a reputable specialist. However the venue or landowner may ask that you use a professional for their own piece of mind, but the is not a legal requirement
if i order the fireworks and i am not in when they turn up what happens
If you are not in to receive your firework order, normally the driver will leave a card with a contact number for the local depot. You can then either re-arrange delivery or collect from the local depot. Please note however, that the depot cannot hold the fireworks any longer than 24 hours for health and safety reasons.

List of Safety FAQ
If a display is sited with wind direction in mind and it is strong;then as long as nothing is flying towards the audience is it safe to go ahead with it?
Hi there, you must always consider what is downwind of the fireworks before lighting them. If the wind is very strong I would recomend waiting until the wind is reduced. At the very least I would not fire rockets in high wind conditionsdue to the location that te debris may come down.
Have you any tips on how best to ensure that a Catherine wheel spins?
The label on all catherine wheels gives full instructions on how to set them up using the pin / centre nail provided. Part of those instructions asks that you spin the wheel with you hand prior to lighting to ensure that it will rotate freely.
Do I need to wear personal protective equipment to fire displays of small Cat2 5m fireworks? I usually get away with safety glasses/gloves and earplugs, I feel the fallout from garden fireworks is barely a worry being small and inanimate.
On smaller fireworks full PPE would be a little over the top, however wearing safety goggles is always a prudent idea when using fireworks of any size. Gloves is also a good idea, although there is no need for ear plugs as garden fireworks do not create the louder bangs associated with larger fireworks
what category catherine wheels? n what does the law say abt firework in poor weather like in winds?
We have category 2 catherine wheels suitable for viewing for 5 metres, and larger category three ones which are minimum 25 metre viewing distance. Regards high winds its best to delay the display, particularly when using rockets, although catherine wheels are much better in windy conditions
If fire crackers are illegal now what happens from an educational policy point of view if a child is found with some in school and has even used them in the playground?
Fire Crackers have been illegal since around 1997, and can only be used by professionals in the fireworks indsutry and cannot be used by any member of the general public. It is also now illegal for any persons under the age of 18 to buy fireworks or possess them in a public place. The child should not be able to have these items, due to the fact they are illegal, the one(s) you talk of may be fused for display use and can be inherently more dangerous. It is very important to find how and where this child obtained these fireworks then if it is illegal they must be reported to the authorities.
Is it really necessary to stake out cakes ie attach securely to upright post as mentioned in the instructions? I usually place multishot cakes/ multishot fan cakes/ cone fountains/ multieffect fountains with level bases/fountain mines on wooden boards on flat level ground and have not had one misfire or tip over when doing this method, also why is it necessary to wear full overalls with category3 display fireworks? A hard hat with built in eardefenders and clearvisor and gloves usually provides me adequate protection.
Hi there, when using Cat 3 fireworks you can be sure they can be very powerful and safety issues are paramount when using them. The PPE is for your own protection and I see no reason why you would not want to wear it !! The instructions on the fireworks are for the safe and proper use and come from our experience of using fireworks for many years so please adhere to the instructions. Again these are for your benefit and you are wrong to suggest that a Cat 3 cake will not fall over when placed on level ground as we have first hand experience that they can do.
Do single ignition displays require staking out or burying with a plastic bag into soft ground? Most will stand unaided on flat level ground or on a flast wooden board. Some of these say"Attach securely to an upright post" or "Insert upright in soft ground". Is this absolutely necessary?
Hi there, most single ignition cakes only require "flast ground", however some of the taller ones will require either stakes or soft ground to ensure they are stable. Each firework will stipulate this on its safety label and you must follow this instruction.
Hi There, What is the largest catogory firework a member of the public can buy? What is required to be able to purchase and use larger display fireworks such as mortars. IE: course certification etc. I ask as i am considering entering into the display business and would like to know where to start. ALSO , do you sell wholesale to display organisers and can you supply the larger catagory display products such as large palm burst etc.? Many Thanks In Advance. Alex.
For memebrs of the genral public the largest types of fireworks are those that fit Category 3 determined by BS7114. This is Cakes up to 10Kg, Roman Candles up to 30mm and Rockets up to 500gram Gross. There are also limits on other firework types such as fountains, set pieces etc. We do provide training to our own operators for using Larger Display Material however this is done with strict supervision and on going training. If you would like to go on a training course then please emal sam@1stgalaxy.co.uk for more information. To purchase fireworks that we use in Fireworks Displays, you must have the appropriate Insurance Cover and Storage as well as proven competance in handling and using these types of fireworks
My neighbour keeps letting off fireworks at around 7.30pm when it is still daylight. We back onto fields where there are dogs being walked constantly. We have a litle yorkie and it gets so stressed when he does this, as do the dogs on the common. So much so a walker shouted at my neighbour to stop so the neighbour when and got another firework and let it off out of bravado. Is there no law to stop him from doing this? My dog gets affected to the point it makes her ill and last firework night we ended up at the vets with sick (stressed) dog and a bill of £70.
Hi There, we also own dogs, 5 of them in total, one of my own Jack Russells gets stressed at the sound of loud noise. My friend who is a vet advised me to firstly not get stressed myself, apparently it can come across in your voice and behavior and this make the dog more stressed, so we make a point of being relaxed. We put her in a room with the TV on and leave her alone and that works. With regard the Neighbour; if this is happening repeatidly and for no good reason then I would suggest trying to talk to him to reach an agreement on when its best he use his fireworks. Of course if he is been somewhat vindictive and down right unreasonable as you suggest, and you have exhausted all reasonable approaches to him then you could seek advice from the council. The issue here would not be so much the fireworks because its reasonable to use them for a wedding or birthday celebration, but not to use them constantly and deliberatly upset locals. The issus sounds like the person themselves, its a shame he cant be banned perhaps?. We always suggest to our own customers that if they have neighbours that they inform them before hand they intend to use fireworks (when its out of season), of course 99% of good people do but there always seems to be a bad egg somewhere.
Hi there, ive been looking at you website an youtube with interest after i bought some fireworks from you this year, Nov 2009. I was wondering were you doing the display on friday 6 Nov at the Boots sight in Beeston??? Also would i be able to get some info on the courses that you run and also what knowledge i would gain from such course. You guys and girls must really enjoy their jobs!! ED

i live in the uk and i real love setting off fireworks (firecrackers bangers) can u buy firecrackers or bangers here in the uk?
Hi There, No you cannot or at least not for public use. Fire Crackers were banned in the 1997 Regulations and so were bangers. You can still employ our professional services to see and hear these types of fireworks

List of Shopping Info FAQ

With the Nebula kit, do I need to ignite each firework individually or can I wire it up so that it goes one after the other automatically?
The Nebula and other DIY Kits are made up of various single Fireworks designed to be lit individually and does require some setting up etc but does come with full instructions. If you would like a firework that puts on an impressive display from a single fuse the "Single Ignitions" are the ones for you
I have just received a Nebula diaply as a gift. What is the easiest way to time the ignition of the fireworks to ensure the display flows well?
Hi there, all of our pre packaged display kits contain a firing order, if you follow this it will help you light the fireworks in the most effective running order, the cakes and candles have a general running time of 30 seconds plus and rockets are fairly self explanatory.
my son gets married in oct and am looking at buying the wedding cake display,i,ve been in touch with the quy hotel in cambridge and they want to know the contence also the say they would want a profesional to do it but as I under stand it only last for three mins.please could you let me know whats in it and any more info that might change there mind thank you mr b barker
The Ultimate wedding cake lasts well over 2 minutes and contains numerous effects including red with silver fish, green with silver fish, purple sky effect, gold willows finishing with 8 x 26mm multi-colour bombette. This firework is easy to use, only requires a 25 metre spectator distance and meets all the current british standards.
Would you please help me with the following questions. Thank you. How are the fireworks delivered. How should they be stored before the event?
Hi there, thank you for your enquiry, Fireworks are delivered to you by special courier which cover mainland UK. They are delivered in an approved Firework Carton and should be stored in this box. Ideally in a cool dry place with no sources of heat or sparks that may obviously risk setting them alight. We can deliver within a day or two of the event to minimise your storage concerns
Can I order fireworks in the uk all year round?
Fireworks are available all year round by mail order within the UK mainland.
How much do you charge for delivery?
We have a standard delivery charge of £11.50 to all areas of the UK mainland. Due to legislation restrictions we are not allowed to deliver outside of the UK mainland.
I was in canada a few years back at niagra falls and when it was almost midnight they had a fireworks show and one of the fireworks that they shot off, shot off a fraise and it said "welcome to niagra falls canada" . i wanted to know if you make things like that or if you know who does. I would really appreciate it if you get in contact with me because i want to ask my girlfriend to marry me on new years eve and i would like to ask her by useing a firework like that i think that would be really cool. Thank you
Hi there I think what you are refering to is lancework, yes we can make it, in fact this is not the first marriage proposal we have done, would you like to buy a "yes" for your girl friend as well ?. It is £15 per letter plus delivery and VAT
hi cant see if you have a min.order value
Hi there we have no minimum order value, however a delivery charge of £11.50 ex VAT is applied to every order no matter what the value
Hi I would like to have a firework that says "Will You Marry Me" on it? Is this possible and does it have to be a catherine wheel type? Finally how much would it be? Many thanks
You have two options, we can provide Lancework Frames which uses little coloured flares, this costs £15 per Letter plus delivery & VAT. These burn for one minute and would measure roughly 1.5m wide x 0.5m high. The second option is Fire Rope, this would be larger and burns for much longer. The rope arrives pre installed on two metal frames which measure 1.5m wide x 1m high (double this for 2 frames wide). All you have to do is squirt a small amount on Paraffin onto the rope and watch it burn. (the parafin is not provided you will need to purchase this seperatly from you local garage or hardware store)
I called your office number and asked someone about having a display that will read. Gemma will you marry me. But the ladie on the phone was not sure you would do this as a one off . But the question posted on your web site suggested to me that you did do this type of thing. Please email me back . Thanks ryan mohammed
Hi there, indeed we do, however a piece like this is difficult and time consuming to make. The cost is £15 per letter plus delivery, packing and VAT. We would need around 2 weeks to get this through the factory in or near peak seasons so please allow plenty of time.
I am not yet sure whether or not I will be going ahead with a garden party this coming weekend. If I do go ahead, could I pick the firworks from yourself as I will be passing by Nottingham during the week?
Yes of course, we are open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and Saturdays by prior arrangement. During peak season we are open the Saturday before and during that of the bonfire week. We are also open for Neww Year, typically the 4 days running into New Years Eve
I am looking for a firework that has no noise at all (bangs) but with sparkles of different colours (fountain). Could you reccomend anything and would you be able to send me a letter/email confirming this as I need to submit his to the management of the venue. Thamk you
Helloo, we have a range of quiet fireworks that will be suitable for you. please visit our shop and select the "quiet fireworks " category. Also suitable are roman candles that are simply colour based, the noise effects are clearly stated. Also suitable are our fountains (conic fountains) again avoid ordering crackle to keep the noise low. We also have a number of set pieces that are suitable, however please avoid the Mamoth Wheel as it has whistle units. Hope this helps
What are the delivery charges and can I have my ordered stuff delivered to my works address if I cannot be home to accept delivery?
Hi there, a standard delivery cost of £11.50 + VAT is applied to all orders of any size. Delivery can be made to a work address, when going through the order proceedure you can note a seperate delivery address.
Our house is set in the middle of a 1 acre garden largely laid to lawn with the occasional mature tree, and the acre is surrounded on all sides by mature forest. If we have a small display in our garden, I am concerned that the proximity of trees for a mid-summer fireworks display may constitute a fire hazard. Please advise. Can we tailor our choice of fireworks accordingly? What size area of clear lawn do we need without trees within it? Does it matter that the area is surrounded by tall trees? Budget under £250. Many thanks.
The main safety aspect is that of the spectators and they should be kept at least 25 metres away (display fireworks safety distance) from the fireworks. Trees are not covered by this rule so common sense should privale, for ease of use and effect I would recomend cakes, particularly single ignition cakes. However to reduce the fire risk keep clear of those with effects such as Brocade, Willow and Glittering / Strobe. Please email us if you wish for us to make a full suggestion
I am looking for a single ignition box for a party on 21/10/06. There are pets in the area so do you have a box that does not have many loud bangs ?
Hi There we have the Celebration/Birthday Cake which is £29.79 which has virtually no noise just a flurry of finale bombettes at the end. The Party Finale is moderately noisy as is the Party Box Gold the others are then considerably noisier. Or you can see the Quiet Range the Pyro Musical and Pyro Elegance are stunning and are not too noisy
my son is getting married in oct and am looking at buying the wedding cake display ,but the Quy hotel in cambridge wants to know what it contains and also they are saying they would like a profesional person to let it off.but you say it only lasts 3mins I hardly think its worth having someone light it.So please could you let me have as much info as possible thanks mr b barker
Hi there, Youre quite right its not worth having a professional to light this firework, they are extreamly easy to use and very safe. You simply place the item on flat ground, light the fuse and watch, no digging, no holes, no staking it down. It contains all manner of aerial effects and is based on a reduced noise bombette cake with quieter bursts. (if you want something with more noise go with the ultimate finale) it also has a large ending of gold and silver strobe large bombettes as a crescendo. Hope this helps
Do you guys have fireworks that say "Will you marry me"? and if so is it just one big firework or is it... each firework is a letter?
Hi there, yes we do, the items isnt actually a firework, its paper rope on a metal mesh frame which when soaked with parafin will stay alight for 4/5 mins displaying the letters in flames...it looks really good. Each letter is £10 ex VAT plus the cost of the frame £10 ex VAT....a large message like this would require two frames. we need at least 72hrs lead time on an order like this...so lease order early
where are you based and what is your telephone number
Hi there we are based in Nottingham (Ravenshead) our phone number is 0870 4430210
What is the safety distance?
The safety distance is the distance required between the location of your fireworks and spectators. You must check the label on each firework to ensure you have satisfied the minimum distance requirements. Their are two categories of fireworks, category 2 fireworks require a minimum spectator distance of 5 metres and category 3 fireworks require a minimum of 25 metres. Remember that these are minimum distances and where possible a greater distance is preferable.
i live in the uk if i order the fireworks now when will they arrive at my house.
From the day you place your order, we will despatch the following day on a 3-day service, so for example if you placed your order on the monday we will despatch tuesday for you to receive thursday or friday. (excluding some parts of Scotland, which can take upto five days)
ive placed an order @ 21.19 27-12-05 just wondering will i recieve before new years eve?
Hi Any orders placed after 21/12/2005 will not be deliverered until after new year this is because the national carrier company we use shuts down until the 4/01/2006. Any order placed will require a refund this will be done week comencing 10/01/2006 please email us if you require the refund
how long after the 5 november can you still let fireworks off in your back garden thankyou
We are certified to sell fireworks all year from our head office. You can use fireworks at any time prior to 11pm on any night of the year, all we suggest is being considerate to your neighbours.
Were could I get some bottle rockets in the UK with or with or without a report?
Hi there, Bottle Rockets as I understand it are simply packs of very small rockets found on the US Market. Here in the UK there are minimum sizes that are regulated and therefor the smallest rocket we can offer is our Shuttle Rockets, these are a rising whistle to colour burst with crackle, excellent and fun and they are 5m garden rockets. Thanks
